SailPro Sim Help

SailPro Sim is an interactive sailing tactics simulator for sailors, coaches, race officials, and protest hearings. Use it to visualise start line bias, finish line bias, laylines, tack and gybe timing, wind shifts, mark-room situations, and fleet positioning in real time.

Quick Start

       
• Choose Upwind or Downwind mode.
       
• Set wind direction, line angle, line length, mark distance, mark offset, and boat length.
       
• Set up 2 to 4 boats in Auto Mode, or up to 8 boats in Manual Mode.
       
• Use the Distance slider, step forward / reverse, or Play button to animate the fleet in the standard simulation view.
       
• Use Zoom to Fleet, Close Fleet View, and Course View to switch between overview and close-quarters review.
     

Manual Mode (PRO)

       
• Manual Mode unlocks manual scene building for sail coaching, race committee training, and protest hearing visualisation.
       
• Features include manual boat placement, boat heading control, luff / tack / bear-away controls, wind shifts, step playback, protest flags, extra marks, scenario recording, and up to 8 boats.
       
• Canvas controls in Manual Mode: one click luffs 10°, double click tacks/gybes, and right click bears away 10°.
       
• You can also move the selected boat using the keyboard arrow keys. Hold Shift for larger nudges.
       
• Manual Mode is activated using the subscription email and access token sent after purchase or trial signup.
     

Course Controls

       
• Wind Direction sets the wind and can also be adjusted by dragging the wind arrow on the course.
       
• Line Angle and Line Length control start or finish line bias.
       
• Distance to First Mark sets the course length.
       
• Tacking Angle / Gybing Angle controls boat sailing angles.
       
• Mark Offset moves the mark along the line axis and changes course geometry.
       
• Show 3-boat-length zone displays the zone around the main mark based on the current boat length setting.
     

Fleet Setup

       
• Enable up to 4 boats in Auto Mode, or up to 8 boats in Manual Mode.
       
• Set Position on Line from Pin End to Boat End.
       
• Set Bow Distance to show boats behind the line before the start.
       
• Use Tack At / Gybe At to compare different tactical choices.
       
• In PRO Mode, each boat can have its own name, heading, protest flag, and direct control buttons.
     

Playback and Wind Shifts

       
• The Distance slider moves the boats through the course manually in the standard simulation flow.
       
• Step forward and Step back let you move the fleet one increment at a time in PRO Mode.
       
• Play animates the boats and loops automatically in the standard playback model.
       
• Oscillating Shifts move the wind back and forth around a mean direction.
       
• Persistent Shifts move the wind steadily one way with adjustable rate and max shift.
       
• Wind Shifts are available in PRO Mode.
     

Extra Marks and Scenario Recorder

       
• Extra Marks let you place up to 10 additional orange marks on the course. These are visual reference marks only and do not affect calculations.
       
• Each extra mark can be dragged, labelled, deleted, and given its own Zone circle.
       
• Scenario Recorder lets you create named scenarios and save step-by-step versions of an incident.
       
• Use Scenario Recorder to compare the protesting boat’s version, the protestee’s version, and witness versions.
     

View Controls

       
• Zoom to Fleet focuses on the active boats.
       
• Close Fleet View zooms in even tighter for close-quarters review.
       
• Course View returns to the full course layout.
       
• Full Screen (PRO) hides panels so the course display has more room.
       
• Course Controls, Fleet Setup, Start / Finish Line Bias, Fleet Summary, Extra Marks, and Scenario Recorder can all be collapsed individually.
